Fresh Garlic Bulb

2022 Food Box # 9 - What to do with Fresh Garlic Bulb

Years ago, Roman gladiators ate garlic with the belief it would give them strength and power!

To this day, many believe in eating garlic for its “curative powers”.

Curing Garlic is the process of drying out your garlic bulbs to allow for longer shelf life and storage. Cured Garlic is great, but eating your fresh garlic before curing allows for more moisture in the dynamic garlic flavour. Along with the delightful taste, fresh uncured garlic is very aromatic and can be diced, crushed, or used whole to elevate any dish.

One way to enjoy fresh uncured garlic is to simply spread it on bread! Think garlic bread, but with a beautiful garden-fresh flavour. Simply cut the top and bottom off of your garlic bulb, place them in a baking dish with olive oil, salt and pepper. Cover the dish and bake for 45 minutes to an hour in your oven at 350 degrees. The product will be soft and fragrant garlic bulbs you can bread on your favourite loaf of quality bread with or without butter.

Store fresh garlic in a closed container in the refrigerator.
